What Are Floral Waters (Hydrosols) and Why Brands Use Them

Floral waters — also called hydrosols — are the aqueous co-product of steam distillation. When plant material is distilled for essential oil, aromatic compounds also dissolve into the condensed water. That water is the hydrosol.

Unlike diluted essential oils, hydrosols are water-based by nature, which makes them useful in toners, mists, compresses, linen sprays, and as a gentle aromatic phase in cosmetic formulas.
