Pimpinella anisum with its sweet, belongs to the parsley family.
Many medical plants were found in the Pharaonic papyrus, and on the temple walls, the matter that signals the Pharaohs’ interest in cultivation plants and using them in medication. Egypt is considered the original place for many famous plants such as Anise whose seeds where found by archaeologists in the eastern desert tombs of Thebes. Anise was also mentioned in Pharaonic manuscripts especially in relation to medical recipes.
Anise is grown in the Mediterranean region. It is recorded as having originated in Egypt tracing back as far as 4000 millennia ago, and it is still extensively cultivated and harvested in the autumn in the Saeed of Upper Egypt.
